The Master’s Program in Linguistics, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held a welcoming event for its new students from the 2026 cohort on Friday, August 14, 2026. The event took place at the Soegondo Auditorium FIB UGM, and introduced new students to the academic environment and student life in the Master’s Program in Linguistics.
The event was organized to help new students become familiar with their new academic environment and prepare for their studies. It also provided an opportunity for students to meet one another and learn more about the study program, academic activities, and student organizations.
The program began with participant registration, followed by an opening session and the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, the Gadjah Mada Hymn, and the Faculty of Cultural Sciences anthem. The event continued with remarks from the Head of the Organizing Committee and the Chair of Kalingga 2026.


One of the main sessions of the event was an introduction to the Master’s Program in Linguistics. During this session, new students received an overview of the study program and the academic activities they would encounter during their studies. The session was followed by a question-and-answer session, where students had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss matters related to their academic experience.
The event also included an introduction to Kalingga, the student organization of the Master’s Program in Linguistics. Through this session, new students were introduced to the organization and its role in student activities within the program.
To create a more relaxed atmosphere, the program also included an entertainment session, as well as ice-breaking activities and a quiz. These activities encouraged students to interact with one another and get to know their fellow students.
Following the main program, the event continued with the election of the representative for the 2026 cohort. Students also participated in an overview and sharing session, which provided an opportunity to exchange information and perspectives about their upcoming experience as graduate students.


The event concluded with a group photo session and a closing. Overall, the welcoming event provided new students with an opportunity to obtain information about the Master’s Program in Linguistics, meet their fellow students, and become more familiar with the academic and student environment at FIB UGM.
Through this event, the Master’s Program in Linguistics welcomed its new students for the 2026/2027 Academic Year and supported their transition into graduate study.
